How water gets in through a crack
Poured concrete foundations shrink slightly as they cure and can develop hairline vertical cracks within the first year or two, most often near the middle of a wall span or at points of stress like window corners. Those cracks stay dry until groundwater pressure builds against the wall during spring thaw or a stretch of heavy rain, at which point water finds the path of least resistance straight through the crack and onto the basement floor.
How injection seals it
A port is set along the length of the crack from the interior face, and resin is injected under pressure so it travels the full depth of the crack — not just the visible surface — before curing. Polyurethane resin reacts with moisture already present in the crack, expanding to fill voids and cure into a flexible seal that can tolerate minor seasonal movement. Epoxy cures rigid and bonds tightly to the concrete on both sides, more often chosen when some added bonding strength across the crack is wanted in addition to sealing it.
What injection does not fix
This is strictly a leak-sealing repair. It does not address foundation settlement, wall bowing from soil pressure, or structural cracking — cracks that are wider than roughly a quarter inch, stair-step through block coursing, or run horizontally are signs of a different problem that calls for a structural evaluation rather than injection. Sealing a structural crack without addressing the underlying movement typically fails again within a season or two as the wall continues to shift.
